2. I found a bug! What should I do?
You can submit bug descriptions directly to us using the Contact form.
3. I have problem with installation.
This problem can appear on older versions of Windows (Windows 95, NT without Service Packs, and the earliest builds of Windows 98). The likely reason is that your operating system has an old version of the Windows Installer. You can download the newest version directly from Microsoft download server:
Windows NT/2000 Installer
Windows 95/98/ME Installer
4. Why does the “index.dat” file still exist after I erase it?
The “Index.dat” file stores information about what web sites you have visited and what cookies have been saved. This file is always locked by the system when Windows is actively running, and cannot be deleted while in use. Privacy Restorer marks this locked file as a file that should be removed on system reboot. After you reboot your computer the index.dat file will be cleared (a new blank index.dat file will be created by the system as soon as you run Explorer).
5. I want to become an affiliate. What should I do?
Visit our Affiliate program.
6. I have a question not addressed here…
If you have a question that is not answered here, or you want to contact us regarding non-support issues, please reach us using the Contact form.
7. Does the program "shred" the files selected, or just clear/remove them?
Privacy Restorer can "shred" files during the system clean. The program fills space with random data or zeros. By default this option is turned off (it can slow down your system if you have a lot of files to clean). If you want to turn it on, go to the Settings screen and select “Overwrite files.”
8. What browsers does Privacy Restorer support?
Internet Explorer 3+(IE 6 included), Netscape (4+, 6+, and some versions of Mozilla), Opera, and AOL (6.0, 7.0).
9. How can I delete the index.dat file?
Check the Cookies option for the Browser type/s of your choice on the main application page. When you clean the cookies, index.dat will be deleted automatically upon rebooting (see Number 4 above).
